In this Entombed guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by the Deftones note-for-note.
There are two guitar tunings for Entombed. Guitarist Stephen Carpenter used a standard tuned 8-string guitar when recording and performing “Entombed” live. However, he doesn’t really use the 7th and 8th strings so you can just use a six-string guitar tuned to standard like I will be doing in the video lesson. Chino Moreno is playing all the rhythm guitar parts. The tuning he is using is quite strange. It is, starting from the 6th string, Bb G C F A D.
For the video lesson, I will start by demonstrating how to play all of Stephen Carpenter’s guitar parts for the entire song. He is playing a repetitive but very cool sounding tapping lick for the entire song. He is constantly changing the tapped (melody note), so you might feel it is a good idea to TAB out those notes as you follow along with the lesson video. The two note hammer-on he does in the left hand will never change, only the tapped notes he is playing with the right hand will change.
After that, I will then go back to the beginning of the song and demonstrate how to play all of Chino Moreno’s rhythm guitar parts from beginning to end.
This song is not only very melodic, but highly creative so it is a fun one to learn.
Have fun! Carl…
