In this Encore, Thank You, Goodnight guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by Sammy Hagar with incredible guitar work by Joe Satriani.

The tuning is D standard tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, D G C F A D.

The video lesson stars with Joe Satriani’s killer tapping intro. This song is full of Eddie Van Halen style licks. From the tapping into, to the arpeggios in the solo, the tremolo picked legato lick, chromatic tapping licks, the use of harmonics and more, Joe did an excellent job helping Sammy put this tribute to Eddie together.

I will cover each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording. Starting with this tapping intro, through the rhythm guitar work for the verse, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge and guitar solo sections.

Then I will take an in-depth look at Joe’s main guitar solo for “Encore, Thank You, Goodnight”.

The only thing I won’t be covering in this lesson video is Joe’s outro solo. But I will demonstrate how to play that very cool arpeggio picked ending to the song.
